Three-Gorges Tribe Scenic Spot waterfall
If you take a cruise from Zhangjiajie to Chongqing to see the 3 gorges, you will surely pass brought to the Three-Gorges Tribe Scenic Spot (三峡人家)
Three-Gorges Tribe Scenic Spot is a beautiful place to visit. It showcase the primitive life style of local people, historical folk culture and traditions, and the perfect mixture of Ba and Chu culture.
These local people are called ‘Tujiaren’ so you get to experience the life of minority nationalities living. I am glad these people are not displaced by the building of the 3 gorges dam. There are three different ways of life:
- one is water people,
- two is streamside people,
- three is mountain people, with a proverb: rely on mountains to eat mountains and water to eat!
As you get off the boat, you will feel like you enter a movie set. The houses are built on the hillside and beside the river. Because it is mountainous, there’s this fog which give this picturesque place a mysterious feel. The only thing spoiling it? Us, the tourists.
Frankly, the set up to be a little commercialized. Load of tourists were brought there via cruise ships to go through this journey.
Three-Gorges Tribe Scenic Spot has waterfall, traditional boats, rural village and a performance.
Wedding Performance of Tujia People
You get to learn about the special custom of local Tujia ethnic group. About half to one month before the wedding ceremony, the girl begins to cry for the marriage, which not only shows her unwilling to live far away from her birth family, but also expresses her delightfulness for the upcoming marriage with her loved boy.
In this performance, the bridegroom comes to the bride’s home to escort her back to the wedding, with the jubilant composition of the drums and gongs. Everything is well prepared with red and other lucky colors to celebrate this festival day. There is some interaction in the show.
However, I am not a big fan of such shows though.
Despite this, it is still worth a visit if you are on the cruise ship.
By the way, we got there via the cruise ship. The cruise was slow and not exactly the best for children. If you want to visit this place, you can go via Yichang the nearest city.
This place must be awesome! I can’t wait when quarantine over in India and I can visit this place.
